About this site

This site is dedicated to the visionaries that first gave mankind access to space, both through satellites and probes, and later through manned flight.

You may recall names of the brave astronauts from the early flight attempts, some of which were successful. These people were test pilots and knew the risks involved. For their work we are grateful. However, there is a great unsung list of creative and highly driven teams behind each launch, those that provided new technologies an a grand scale to turn the politicians wishes into reality. On this site you will find information on some of these people and what they contributed. The site also provides a resource for the latest drive to cross the Karman Line.

I remember the original Apollo program (yes, I am that old) and the avid anticipation I felt at each new achievment. I have held that desire to see mankind released from its birthplace for the intervening 30 plus years, with increasing despair at the lack of progress. Only a short time ago I thought that I would never see space travel revived within my lifetime, very frustrating when we clearly have the capability to go. Now I am much encouraged, thanks to Burt Rutan and his innovative company, Scaled Composites, and their successful attempt to achieve sub-orbital flight and win the X-Prize.

Though you will find information on this site regarding the details of Scaled's 'Tier one' program, this site is not intended as yet another 'News' site - there are already many to chose from (follow the links). Instead, the site provides a 'resource' for those interested in the practicalities of Spacecraft, both manned and unmanned, and discusses possible ways to live permenantly beyond the Karman Line.
