Lifecraft

Lifecraft

Introduction

Lifecrafts are small emergency survival craft.

All lifecraft must be capable of supporting the needs of a person for a number of hours  (days?), and msut be at least Jeffries diameter, to accommodate a space suited individual.

I would recommend that all liferafts be equipped with an interplanetary distress beacon (IDB).

This self-powered autonomous device would monitor onboard telemmetry and would automatically transmit a distress message in the event of failure. Ther would be an activation switch inside the spacecraft, identified by an agreed symbol. Capability to transmit telemetry status and navigational location data would be useful.

As with 'safe zones' sufficient provisions, including water, rations and medical kit, must be maintained onboard.
